How to Cook Mahi Mahi
If you wonder why it looks so Mahi Mahi restaurant menus these days, one of the reasons is playing a little trick on you. Mahi Mahi (Hawaiian for "strong-strong") is simply another name for the fish called dolphin. Restaurants include the name "Mahi Mahi" and should not be confused into thinking that you are trying to serve a piece of a mammal, called a dolphin. It is sometimes spelled Mahi Mahi (mahi-mahi), and sometimes goes by the name of an alternative gold. Whatever you decide to call, is fish, which, like the great taste and a nice, firm texture that most fans prefer seafood.
Mahi Mahi swim in the waters of many, but are more abundant warm Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. The next time you dine at the Mahi Mahi or buy at the supermarket-whichcan be sure that probably comes from one of these two bodies.
Fresh Mahi Mahi is generally available throughout the year, but in North America, at least, you'll find the best selection of mid-spring to mid summer afternoon. You can also find mahi mahi fillets, frozen all year.
When buying fresh Mahi Mahi, the search for fish whose flesh is pink or beige. Darker meat is certainly safe to eat, but the flavor may be too strong for some people.
Mahi Mahiis a large whole fish and the method of virtually all of the kitchen, you want to use. Poach the steam, fry, oven, grill, all is well. Just be careful not to overcook.
This is a recipe I particularly like the baked Mahi Mahi. Vigorous orange juice glaze adds additional interest.
Ingredients
2 pounds mahi mahi fillets (skinless)
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 / 2 cup oil for frying
Salt 1 / 2 teaspoon
1 clove garlicminced
Juice of 1 / 2 cup frozen concentrated orange
1 bay leaf
Getting There
1. Mahi Mahi fillets cut into serving size portions and place next to each side in a baking dish.
2. Thaw the juice concentrate. Crumble bay leaves. Combining these with the other remaining ingredients and mix well to create a marinade.
3. Pour the marinade over Mahi Mahi (Be sure to cover the fish on both sides).
4. Cover baking dish with foil and place inrefrigerator for 30 to 43 minutes.
5. Place the tray in the top rack of the oven and bake 5 or 6 minutes per side. Fish is done when it flakes easily with fork.
6. Serve!
